Hitachi recently unveiled the newest model in the company’s new EX-7 Series lineup of mining excavators. The fourth machine in the series, the EX3600-7 delivers increased reliability, durability and efficiency for customers in North and South America.

Built for tough jobs and challenging terrain, the mainframe of the excavator features an exclusive centre track frame that delivers optimal stress dispersion and reduces the chance of failure in critical high-stress areas. To provide protection from debris buildup, the undercarriage has three double-sided pedestal-designed upper rollers on each side of the track frame to maintain track shoe clearance. Utilizing Hitachi’s unique manufacturing processes, each shoe is induction-hardened to deliver a more durable part.

Hitachi’s mining excavator is available in a backhoe or shovel configuration. Customers can choose between installing a Cummins or MTU engine in Final Tier 4 (FT4) or Fuel Calibration Optimized (FCO) configurations. The advanced hydraulic system on the EX3600-7 tops the industry for smooth and efficient combined operations of the front attachment and swing, delivering quick cycle times. To enhance engine power, lower fuel consumption and increase productivity, each individually controlled hydraulic pump has its own regulator. A larger hydraulic oil cooler with variable speed fan creates a more reliable hydraulic system and reduces energy demand.

Operator comfort has not been sacrificed in the EX3600-7. Features include a weight-adjusting air suspension seat that calculates optimal cushioning and minimizes vibration, a climate-controlled air conditioning system inside the pressurized cab that filters interior and exterior air, and retractable front and side roll screens to help reduce heat, glare and harmful UV rays. In the event of an emergency, an escape chute has been added to the side of the cab. Intelligent systems include Hitachi’s Global e-Service, an online management system enabling staff to access each on-site machine from an office PC, and the optional Aerial Angle system which provides the operator with a real-time birds-eye view around their machine.

“The EX3600-7 sets a new standard in the mining industry,” said Brian Mace, mining product marketing and applications manager, Hitachi Construction Machinery - Americas. “With a multitude of innovative features, it’s a reliable workhouse that is ready for its tough job.”

Manufactured in Japan, the EX3600-7 is available in Canada, the United States, Latin America and Brazil.
