Independence appoints new president, CFO and directors

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 04, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Independence Gold Corp. (TSX.V:IGO) (the "Company") and its board of directors wish to announce the appointments of Ms. Kendra Johnston, P.Geo, MBA as President and Mr. Harry Chan, CPA, CGA as Chief Financial Officer of the Company. Mr. Randy Turner will be assuming the role of Executive Chairman. The Company also wishes to welcome Mr. Darcy Marud, P.Geo and Ms. Johnston to its Board of Directors.

Ms. Johnston has been with the Company for 10 years and is an active member of the mineral exploration community.  She has held various positions with the Company, including most recently the role of Interim President.  During her time with the Company Ms. Johnston has overseen the Yukon exploration programs, built relationships with various stakeholders, and managed the land, environment and health and safety programs.  In addition to her role at Independence, Ms. Johnston is the Vice Chair of the Board of AME, a Director of the Yukon Chamber of Mines and Past Chair of AME’s Roundup Conference.  Ms. Johnston is a registered Professional Geologist in BC and holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Queen’s University.

Mr. Chan is a chartered professional accountant with over 20 years experience in corporate transactions, public markets and in-depth accounting and auditing, working in several different industries ranging from mineral exploration, development, public practice, sports entertainment, wholesale distribution and telecommunications.  The Company thank Ms. Neale, the former CFO, who is leaving the Company to pursue other endeavors.

Darcy Marud is a Professional Geologist with more than 30 years of precious metals exploration experience in the Americas and is an active member of the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario and a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a BSc Honors in Geology (1985).  Mr. Marud was most recently with Yamana Gold Company, where he served as SVP Exploration from 2007 to 2013 and Executive Vice President - Enterprise Strategy from 2014 until his departure from Yamana in September 2017. Prior to Yamana Gold Mr. Marud held senior roles in exploration with Homestake Mining Company, FMC Gold Corp and Meridian Gold Inc.  During his career, Mr. Marud has been involved in the discovery and subsequent development of significant precious metals deposits including: El Peñón, Chile; Mercedes, Mexico and Pilar and Corpo Sul(Chapada) in Brazil.

The company also announces the re-election of Mr. Randy Turner, Mr. John McDonald, Mr. Michael McPhie, Mr. Terry Salman and Mr. Louis Montpellier to the Company’s Board of Directors at its annual general meeting.
