TORONTO, Dec. 6, 2017 /CNW/ - Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) is pleased to announce the winners of the prestigious annual Awards of Excellence in Corporate Reporting. Twenty-seven organizations were honoured with BMO Financial Group, Barrick Gold Corporation, Goldcorp and Teck leading the way with Platinum Awards.

"We are proud to acknowledge the first-rate work of this year's winners," says Joy Thomas, president and CEO, CPA Canada. "Strong corporate reporting inspires trust, enhances accountability and helps protect the public interest."

This year, the winner's circle was expanded to more accurately reflect the high-quality reporting produced in Canada.  In addition to the Awards of Excellence in four judging categories, Gold and Silver Awards now recognize publicly listed and Crown organizations that meet defined standards for exceptional reporting. The program's highest honour, the Platinum awards, recognize listed companies that record outstanding achievement in all four judging categories: financial reporting, sustainability reporting, corporate governance disclosures and electronic disclosures.

"In an ever-evolving and complex global economy, organizations must adapt to changing expectations and new environments while remaining accountable for their financial, social and environmental impact," adds Thomas. "We applaud all of our winners, as well as the dedicated judges who assessed the entries, for playing an active and important role in advancing corporate reporting in Canada."

To elevate the bar for excellence each year, CPA Canada provides all entrants with a confidential assessment of how they measured up against the best practices, and also offers specific recommendations to help them improve their future corporate reporting.

This is the 66th year the awards have showcased the best in reporting practices. The winners were announced at a gala held in Toronto, Ontario.
