Knelson uses gravity concentrators to separate and recover valuable minerals.

Reclaiming precious metals is a simple procedure with technology that separates valuable materials from unwanted elements through a gravity solution process.

“Gravity concentrators work on the principle of amplifying specific gravity differences between minerals so it uses force of gravity to separate particles in a centrifuge,” said Mike McLeavy, sales director for Knelson’s Gravity Solutions division. “Knelson uses a patented fluidized bed separation method which is unique in our machines.”

The concentrators utilize pressure and force to separate, isolate and recover precious metals mixed in with a slurry feed of water and crushed material.

The Semi-Continuous (Batch) Concentrators and the Continuous Variable Discharge (CVD) Concentrators fulfil the same function except that the CVD is capable of a constant intake of fresh feed while discharging the concentrate.

The CVD concentrators are best utilized when the target mineral exceeds 0.5 per cent of the total feed mass. Some examples of minerals that have been successfully recovered with both concentrators include iron, gold, silver, zinc, titanium and many others.

Knelson also handles sales for the ConSep ACACIA reactor designed to maximize gold recovery from gravity concentrates with a high-efficiency leaching process.

Knelson is made up of five divisions, including Knelson Gravity Solutions, Knelson Engineering and Manufacturing and Knelson Research and Technology Centre. Recent additions are Knelson Milling Solutions, which offers novel fine grinding technology, and Knelson Process Solutions, which provides design and supply of CIP/CIL and Zadra/AARL elution circuits.
