Recognizing provincial restoration projects
Britannia Mine Museum wins two awards for excellence.
The AME BC Award for Excellence in Social and Environmental Responsibility was presented to the museum as an acknowledgement for restoring the heritage site and for salvaging existing buildings and materials. The British Columbia Museum Association recognized Britannia for creating an excellent new visitor’s experience that aims to educate people about the importance of mining provincially.
The Britannia Mine Museum is both a national historic site and a B.C. historic landmark. The organization is a non-profit group that promotes mining preservation and communication with the public. The history of the Britannia Mine Museum is long and complicated, but after a devastating mill closure and a fire less than a decade ago, designers embraced modern architecture in order to restore the site while maintaining historical flavour from the mining area.
The BCMA Award of Merit was also presented to Kristin Clausen, the executive director of Britannia Mine Museum, for outstanding achievements related to the time she has been spending on historic restoration projects, museum interpretation and fundraising initiatives.

"I was thrilled that they recognized my hard work, as well as my team's hard work," said Clausen.
