Conference of Metallurgists (COM2017) hosting World Gold and Nickel - Cobalt

VANCOUVER, Aug. 8, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Metallurgy & Materials Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (MetSoc of CIM) is proud to host both 2017 conferences on World Gold and Nickel-Cobalt as part of the 2017 Conference of Metallurgists (COM2017).

COM2017: The three-day conference, taking place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, features a technical program offering more than 250 presentations and posters that cover myriad areas of interest in the minerals, metals and materials fields – from scientific advances through to industrial practice. COM2017 is also marked by two special symposia on innovation: one that recognizes leading Canadian female engineers, and the other is aimed at identifying ways to enable innovation in the mining and metallurgical industries.

Women of Innovation, Wednesday, August 30, 2017: The Influence of Leading Canadian Female Engineers. The symposium will highlight the experiences and achievements of innovative Canadian female engineers.

"It's an important opportunity to understand innovation in engineering using a gender lens and to develop future strategies to encourage more women to consider careers in engineering and how to create an inclusive engineering culture" said Dr. Mary Wells, Chair,  Ontario Network of Women in Engineering and Associate Dean Outreach, University of Waterloo.

Enabling Innovation in Metallurgy, Wednesday, August 30, 2017: For anyone interested in seeing a report card on the Mining Industry's record on innovation and advice on what can be done about it. The session is co-sponsored by MetSoc and Canada Mining Innovation Council (CMIC). The speakers, specially invited from Academia and Industry will tackle topics ranging from the impact of Corporate Culture to Successful Collaboration to Open Access in scientific publications.
