An annual competition bringing together innovative cleantech companies to present solutions to mining industry executives and investors. Companies from the U.S., Canada, and Israel compete for prizes while showcasing technologies that can reduce environmental impact in mining operations.
The Mining Cleantech Challenge serves as a unique platform connecting cleantech innovators with the mining industry's need for sustainable solutions. The 2019 event featured 12 companies presenting technologies designed to address environmental challenges in mining operations, with winners selected by mining executives and investors following evaluation by an international panel of judges. The competition attracted major industry sponsors including Newmont Mining and Fresnillo, along with support from organizations such as Jolimont Global, Ausenco, Resource Capital Funds, the Consulate General of Canada in Denver, Colorado School of Mines, Rocky Mountain Institute, and the Mountain Studies Institute. According to event organizers, the challenge addresses the mining industry's evolving approach to integrating innovative technology and alternative energy sources into operations. The day-long program provides a forum for collaboration between established mining companies and entrepreneurs developing next-generation clean technologies, with sponsors actively seeking to foster relationships with technology developers who can help the industry reduce its environmental footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.
