Columbia River Treaty Community Meeting - Revelstoke
Community engagement meeting to provide updates on Columbia River Treaty negotiations between Canada and the United States, with discussion on local community interests that should be considered during negotiations. Light meal provided at 6pm.
This community meeting is part of a comprehensive engagement strategy by the BC government to ensure local communities throughout the Columbia Basin remain informed and involved in the Columbia River Treaty negotiations. The meeting will provide residents with direct updates on the progress of negotiations between Canada and the United States, which were launched on May 29, 2018. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss important community interests that should be considered during the international negotiations, ensuring local perspectives are incorporated into the provincial position. The Columbia River Treaty, a trans-boundary water management agreement ratified in 1964, has significant implications for flood management and hydroelectric power generation in the region. The meeting reflects the government's commitment to transparency and community engagement, following extensive consultation that led to BC's 2014 decision to continue the treaty while seeking improvements. Local residents, First Nations members, and anyone with interests in regional water management and energy policy are encouraged to attend to contribute their perspectives to this important international negotiation process.
