Family Fun Day at Britannia Mine Museum
A family-friendly educational event as part of BC Mining Week, featuring interactive workshops, science activities, and entertainment to promote mining awareness and education. The event includes the debut of a new water-themed exhibit.
Family Fun Day at the Britannia Mine Museum offers visitors of all ages an engaging introduction to mining and earth sciences through hands-on activities and educational programming. The event features interactive mineral workshops from MineralsEd where participants can create fossil imprints, geoscience exploration activities from Below BC, and science-based experiments exploring water's unique properties. Live entertainment includes performances by the Sansho Daiko Japanese Drummers, while practical demonstrations allow visitors to climb aboard a Finning loader and explore a volunteer fire department truck. Traditional family activities round out the program with face painting, costume photo booths, and cookie mining activities. The event coincides with the launch of the museum's new summer exhibit 'Water: Beneath the Surface,' which examines water's role in shaping landscapes and creating extreme environments. This comprehensive programming combines education with entertainment, making complex mining and geological concepts accessible to families while celebrating BC's mining heritage. The event supports the museum's mission to educate the public about mining's contributions to society and promote understanding of environmental sustainability practices in the modern mining industry.
