On May 30, 2016, Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Mr. Keisuke Kuroki) and the Province of British Columbia, Canada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation in the field of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and potential coal business opportunities.

Under the MOU, JOGMEC and the Province of British Columbia will cooperate in the field of LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) and coal business through several means, such as exchanging infromation, examining market opportunities and technological collaboration.

The original MOU was signed in 2012 with the primary purpose of implementing Gas-to-Liquids technologies and was extended in 2013 with similar goals. The MOU signed on May 30, 2016, was expanded to include considerations for the field of LNG and coal business development opportunities. JOGMEC believes that this MOU will further strengthen JOGMEC’s collaborative relationship with the Province of British Columbia, which holds abundant unconventional gas and coal resources.
