Accelerate Kootenays Electric Vehicle Charging Network Celebration
A celebration event marking the successful implementation of Canada's first regional community-driven electric vehicle charging network. The event brought together over 40 delegates including government ministers, regional district leaders, and industry partners to commemorate the completion of 10 fast charging stations across the Kootenays region.
This milestone celebration brought together key stakeholders who have collaborated over two years to create an innovative $1.8 million electric vehicle infrastructure project spanning the Kootenays region. The event highlighted the successful installation of 10 Direct Current Fast Chargers and progress toward completing 40 Level 2 charging stations, creating over 1,800 kilometres of connected EV travel across Highway 3 from Sparwood to Greenwood. Distinguished attendees included Hon. Michelle Mungall, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, alongside board chairs from regional districts and senior executives from BC Hydro, FortisBC, Columbia Basin Trust, and Teck Trail Operations. The celebration showcased how unprecedented collaboration between all government levels and private sector partners can address rural infrastructure challenges while supporting both climate goals and regional economic development.
