Community Solar Garden Pre-sale Kick Off Event
Public information session and pre-sale launch for Nelson's innovative Community Solar Garden project. Attendees will learn project details and can purchase solar panels on a first-come, first-served basis.
This landmark event marks the launch of Canada's first community solar program where customers can purchase individual panels in a shared solar array. The evening begins with doors opening at 6:30pm, followed by a detailed presentation at 7:00pm explaining the project mechanics, financial benefits, and 25-year credit system. Pre-sales commence immediately following the presentation, operating on a first-come, first-served basis with over 350 people already on the interest list. The program allows customers to invest in solar energy without rooftop installation, making renewable energy accessible to renters and those with shading issues. Project coordinator Carmen Proctor expects rapid sell-out given the strong interest, with 150 panel pre-sales needed to guarantee Spring 2016 construction. Higher pre-sale volumes will reduce per-panel costs and expand the project size beyond the baseline 50kW capacity. This innovative municipal utility model is attracting attention from communities across Canada as a replicable approach to distributed renewable energy development.
