This strategic roundtable represented a pivotal moment in Canadian mining innovation policy, bringing together key decision-makers from both industry and government to align on sustainability priorities. The event featured participation from the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources, alongside senior officials from Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. Industry representation included executives from major mining companies Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, Goldcorp, IAMGOLD Corporation, and New Gold, as well as engineering firm Hatch. The discussions centered on the Towards Zero Waste Mining initiative and how government support could catalyze industry innovation investments. The roundtable demonstrated the strong alignment between TZWM objectives and federal priorities around climate change, environmental leadership, and Indigenous economic opportunities. This type of high-level engagement is crucial for advancing collaborative innovation in the mining sector and establishing Canada's position as a global leader in sustainable mining practices.
