LNG in BC Conference 2015 - Clean Energy. Reliable Partner.
British Columbia's third annual international LNG conference bringing together industry stakeholders, First Nations, investors, and students to advance the province's participation in the global natural gas export market. The event featured skills training programs and international networking opportunities.
The LNG in BC Conference 2015 represented a pivotal gathering for British Columbia's emerging liquefied natural gas industry, attracting over 3,000 participants including 91 speakers across three intensive days. The conference served as a comprehensive platform for advancing BC's strategic positioning in the global LNG market, with particular focus on Asian export opportunities. International delegates from more than 10 countries participated, including key markets such as Australia, China, Japan, India, Korea, Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States, demonstrating the global interest in BC's LNG potential.
The event was structured around three main themes - investment, technology and innovation, and partnerships - delivered through 12 specialized panels. A distinguishing feature was the extensive youth engagement component, including the GameChanger competition program that challenged students with creative problem-solving exercises used by natural gas professionals. Over 2,000 young people attended, participating in hands-on experiences through the Find Your Fit interactive exhibit designed for Grades 6-10 students to explore career opportunities in the sector.
The conference featured a significantly expanded tradeshow floor with hundreds of exhibits, including 95 LNG-Buy BC exhibitors and 20 Aboriginal companies, facilitating connections between international delegates and BC-based service providers. Representation from 58 BC communities and 37 First Nations underscored the province-wide significance of LNG development. The event generated substantial social media engagement, with the official hashtag #LNGinBC2015 reaching nearly 780,000 people during the conference period.
Beyond networking and information exchange, the conference served as a platform for policy announcements, including new trades training funding initiatives and the introduction of LNG Canada's dedicated trades training fund. These developments aligned with projections that natural gas employment in BC could triple from approximately 53,000 jobs in 2015 to 156,000 by 2035, making workforce development a critical component of the province's LNG strategy. The event effectively positioned British Columbia as a reliable clean energy partner ready to capitalize on growing Asian demand for natural gas while building the necessary infrastructure and human capital to support long-term industry growth.
