National Engineering and Geoscience Month

National Engineering and Geoscience Month represents a comprehensive province-wide initiative to engage young people with the exciting possibilities in engineering and earth science careers. Throughout March 2018, Engineers and Geoscientists BC orchestrated a diverse array of community events designed to make science accessible and inspiring for families and students of all ages. The program featured signature events including the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Science Games, which provided interactive challenges that demonstrate real-world applications of engineering principles, and special Dig Day activities at the historic Britannia Mine Museum, offering hands-on exploration of geoscience concepts in an authentic mining environment.

The celebration included creative competitions such as popsicle stick bridge building challenges that teach fundamental engineering concepts through play, along with numerous other educational activities distributed across British Columbia's communities. These events were strategically designed to address the growing need for qualified professionals in engineering and geoscience fields, particularly as British Columbia's natural resource industries continue to evolve and expand. The program emphasized the critical role these professions play in public safety, environmental stewardship, and economic development.
