Nicola Mining Announces The Completion Of The Ubc Master’s Thesis Concluding That Craigmont Is Part Of A Porphyry-Linked Skarn System

Nicola Mining Inc. has received significant validation for its New Craigmont copper project through completion of a comprehensive Master's thesis conducted by Warren Wagner at UBC's Mineral Deposit Research Unit. The research definitively establishes that the historically mined Craigmont skarn is part of a larger porphyry-linked system, confirming the company's long-held geological hypothesis and providing critical insights for future exploration targeting.

The study employed advanced analytical techniques including field observations, petrography, whole-rock and mineral chemistry, and integrated geochronology to redefine Craigmont's geological model. Key findings include identification of two discrete hydrothermal stages: massive calcsilicate skarn alteration at approximately 215 million years ago related to early Border Phase intrusions, and overprinting vein-hosted porphyry-type mineralization at 209 million years ago from later oxidized intrusions. The presence of multiple alteration styles and elevated porphyry indicator trace elements in epidote minerals provides strong evidence for a proximal porphyry system separate from the Highland Valley district.

The research has immediate practical applications for Nicola's exploration strategy, narrowing focus to two primary target areas: West Craigmont containing the Draken target, and east of the historical mine where the Jotun target is located. The study emphasizes the importance of structural permeability and reactive host rocks in controlling mineralization distribution, providing valuable vectoring tools for the company's ongoing exploration efforts.

This academic validation carries significant strategic value for Nicola Mining, particularly given the project's location within the same Guichon Batholith that hosts Highland Valley Copper, Canada's largest copper mine.
